Some history:

More than a 100 years ago, the Lodi Opera House was a busy theatrical place.

In later part of January 1905,  people dressed in their finest clothes walked the  downtown dirt streets  of Lodi, CA to see the magnificent shows performed in the two-story building at the southeast corner of Pine and School streets.

Today, 110 years later, the grayish building that was the "Crown Jewel" of Lodi in the early 1900s is the home of Thornton House Furniture.

The owners Al Nunes, his wife Kate, and the staff of Thornton House Furniture pride themselves in their continued business with both the private residents and business clients.

Thornton House Furniture was started in 1978 in Stockton, CA on Thornton Road, in a warehouse of 4,000 square feet. The business was moved to Lodi in 1988 as a personal invitation from Joe “Speed” Newfield. Newfield was a second generation owner of Newfield’s Furniture and occupied the building that was once The Opera House. When Newfield decided to close his store, he contacted the owners of Thornton House Furniture and offered them the building to move the store to.

Anyone is welcome to stop by and get a tour, even if you’re not shopping for furniture at the time. The building has a lot of history, and is a significant part of downtown Lodi.
Thornton House Furniture offers quality home furnishings and accessories from many national furniture manufactures. They also carry draperies, carpet and fine imported rugs.

Thornton House can offer competitive prices on daily and the staff is always on top of the new trends and styles so that customers are informed when needed. Whether you are completing a whole room or just need that special chair. The staff is more than ready to assist you.

We still have customers that we began working with back when we first opened our doors more than 35 years ago and because they have been so happy with our service they have referred their friends and family members.

That is how a business should work.
